Ipsus: A Tasting in Chianti
Some places you arrive at by winding roads, gravel under the tires, the landscape opening slowly, nothing hurrying you. Ipsus was that kind of arrival.
The visit was arranged by a dear friend, someone I've been traveling to Italy with since 2004. For eighteen years, a group of us returned to the same villa in Tuscany the same week every other summer. This was our last time all together, which made every moment of that week, including this one, land differently.
The grounds were beautiful. The wine was extraordinary. And the design of the winery itself, the aesthetic of the whole place, felt considered in a way that a photographer notices. The cellar especially. That light.
Some experiences don't need much explaining. These photographs are the story.
