CARRIED
Every body has carried something.
Carried explores the invisible weight we hold within our bodies.
Through layered photographic composites, this work gives form to what cannot be seen.
It is resilience, tenderness, and the courage to listen when the body asks us to slow down.
Carried began as part of a creative challenge at The Arlen Studio, my home studio, where I was one of eight photographers selected to participate. The woman in these images is Cyndi Finkle, whose personal story became the inspiration for our collaboration and the starting point for exploring what the body carries long after an experience has passed.
We all move through seasons that leave an imprint, whether from grief, stress, caregiving, illness, loss, responsibility, or simply living. We expect our bodies to keep going, to recover quickly, to remain strong, useful, familiar.
But a body is more than something to be looked at. It is the place where an entire life has happened.
It has carried work and worry, children and loss, desire and disappointment.
It has known illness and health, exhaustion and pleasure, grief and joy.
It has held other people. It has been held. It has adapted, protected, remembered and, sometimes, asked us to stop.
We carry more than anyone can see. Perhaps the invitation is simply to notice, listen and honor the body that has carried us this far.
