A Day in the Studio with Ceramist Sunny Leinhart
On a beautiful September afternoon, I had the privilege of visiting my dear friend Sunny Leinhart. I had known Sunny for a few years and owned several of her beautiful ceramic leaves, but I had never seen her studio. When I asked if I could come photograph her at work, she surprised me with lunch on her deck, good wine, and the kind of afternoon that makes you feel lucky to have the friends you have.
She led me through her the beautiful garden and grounds that surround her home. People dream of spaces like hers. It is a house where plants and children matured, and you feel that history in every corner of it. We even stopped for a swing, just to take in the afternoon light and the blooming flowers around us.
Her studio sits across the street from the house, with its own quiet, beautiful entrance. I love seeing an artist's space: the things they collect, the tools they reach for, the objects that catch their eye and stay. A studio's collections are a statement in their own right. It is always such an honor to be let into someone's world and to witness their process firsthand.
Thank you, Sunny, for a wonderful afternoon, and for your friendship.
