Paula Hodgson

Portrait of Paula Hodgson for the 50 Women Project by photographer Christine Harris.

I met Paula when our daughters became friends in elementary school. Over the years we've gone from school moms to dance moms to friends who now meet regularly over coffee to solve the world's problems, encourage one another, and dream up new ideas.

She has built a beautiful marriage and family that continues to inspire. One of the things I admire most about Paula is the way she moves through life with curiosity and intention. Whether she's creating memories with her family, starting a business with purpose, or simply appreciating the beauty in the everyday, she has a way of making life feel full.

After years as a stay-at-home mom, Paula embraced a new chapter by founding The Olla Company, proving it's never too late to discover work that feels meaningful and completely your own.

If you'd like a glimpse into her everyday life, you can also read her Day in the Life feature. I'm so happy to share her story as part of the 50 Women Project.

What really matters to you?

To love and be loved.

Cherishing the journey.

“Wherever you go, plant your roses.”
My dad’s phrase to be present, find the beauty where you are,
and put down roots.

What brings you happiness?

Being barefoot.

Time with my family.

Time with the friends I consider my family.

Sisterhood with friends like Christine, who draw out the beauty and voice in every woman she photographs.

Early morning coffee in the quiet.

Getting back in bed for a few peaceful minutes after a shower.

Natural beauty.

Adventures.

Curiosity.

The chaos of children running around.

Laughter.

Making memories.

Dancing at parties.

Travel.

My husband reading to me before bed.

Shall I keep going?

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced?

Reinventing myself after years as a stay-at-home mom, a job I loved dearly.
My challenge was figuring out the next chapter- I had no idea what that would look like, nor even what I was good at. All I knew was that I wanted it to be meaningful.

It challenged my patience and my trust that the universe always has my back and is conspiring for my highest good.

As a lifetime learner, technology challenges me daily - I can screw up anything involving tech.

Decision fatigue is real.

What would you change if you could?

Borrowing from John Lennon — the world would come together as one.

What single word do you identify with?

Empower. This is my favorite word.

It is owning your own space, feeling at home in your own skin, and knowing that going for it is always the best first step.

EMPOWER
